Contract update

Middlesbrough Council has selected Amey and Hyder Business Services as short-listed partners to provide services such as facilities management, IT and customer services.

Proposals from Capita Business Services and PricewaterhouseCoopers were also assessed before a decision to shortlist two was made. The evaluation process included an examination of services the organisations could provide, their experience of delivering services, performance, and financial standing and staffing profile. An understanding of the council’s far-reaching modernising agenda, the government’s Best Value initiative and partnership working were also expected to be shown.

Deputy leader Sylvia Connolly said: "The Council was in an enviable position of being able to choose between two proposals, both of which offer an opportunity to provide better services, protect existing jobs, create new employment opportunities and generate significant savings."

Brian Staples, Amey’s chief executive expressed satisfaction at the news, saying it reflects well on Amey’s ability to be able to offer high quality services and reaffirms its strong public sector position.

The final decision on which company will partner with Middlesbrough Council is thought to be due in mid-November.

An extension of an existing contract was given to Trident Contract Services by Bedfordshire and Luton Community NHS Trust. Trident has been providing a number of service for the multi-site hospital for the last two years and these have now been extended because of the opening of six new residential mental health units and a headquarter building. The services provided include cleaning, catering, housekeeping, window cleaning and laundry services.

Fiona Benson, contracts manager at the Trust said: "As the Trust has grown and developed, so has the contract with Trident. Knowing that we can make significant changes to the way in which we work together, without affecting the standard of that work, is of vital importance to us."

A supplier of services for the public and healthcare sectors Trident Contract Services is part of the OCS Group which employs 45,000 people and has an annual turnover over £360m.
