New FM company looks to expand rapidly in UK

Faceo, the new facilities management joint venture created by Alstom and Thomson-CSF (see News story), plans rapid growth in the UK.

Tim Clark, Managing Director of Faceo Facility Management UK Ltd (which begins trading next month) is aiming for turnover of £20m next year, rising to between £35m and £40m the year after which would put the company in the same bracket as MacLellan (£40.5m) and Pall Mall (£39m). Clark's ambitions are clearly greater though as he cites Carillion (£77m), Amec Facilities £80m) and Johnson Controls IFM (£206m) as competitors

The UK business will build on the contracts of Alstom FM which has been servicing Alstom group companies in the UK for around 18 months as well as securing work with a number of external clients including Group 4 and Marconi. Alstom FM currently turns over about £4m from work at five major locations with two more coming on stream next year.

"Our focus is naturally the industrial sector but we also provide soft services," said Clark. He expects relationships to start with the technical infrastructure and broaden from there. Clark is clear that Faceo will be able to support core business directly: "We can demonstrate our ability to maintain key process plant and equipment."

Faceo's business development director Antoine Chiriaco told i-FM that although acquisition was not a priority, the company was "opportunist." Explaining the reasons behind the launch he said that the French market is now growing fast along with Italy and Spain. FM accounts for just 5% of the service market in France, said Chiriaco, with Dalkia , Elyo and Altys (a subsidiary of Sodexho) among the leading players.
