ISS cleaned hospital receives cash spending boost

Homerton Hospital in East London, cleaned by ISS Mediclean, has been chosen for health secretary Alan Milburn's announcement of a £31m cash boost for improving standards of hygiene at NHS trusts throughout the country.

The hospital was one of eight "exemplar" NHS hospital trusts cited as a model of good practice in a Department of Health report issued in September last year.

Ann Marie Allan, the ISS unit business manager at Homerton, said: "ISS has developed an excellent relationship with all the NHS trusts it works for. Working together in partnership at Homerton, where a strong team is pulling together, is a key reason why this particular hospital has been awarded "exemplar" status by the government.”

"Alan Milburn was delighted to hear of the efforts we have been making to improve our high standards even more, and of how ISS Mediclean is expanding its contracts to become a total supports-service provider."

Simon Cox, MD of ISS Mediclean, commented: "We, as a company, have played a leading role in changing the whole concept of cleaning. Gone are the days of Mrs Mopp, who had no career path and often felt under-valued. ISS staff are dedicated to their job because they are respected, paid well and have an employer interested in their future. They are also thoroughly trained so that they know just how crucial a job they do.

"The exemplar status awarded shows that the move to support service-providership is working well. We are in the process of recruiting an ‘infection control nurse’ who will be available as a consultant to all our contracts.”
