Business wasting £1.8bn on document management

Europe’s large to medium sized businesses could save a total £1.8bn annually in hard costs by controlling their office document output, says document outsourcing and facilities management provider Xerox Business Services. The company’s research also showed that companies could reduce IT helpdesk calls by 25-40% and increase staff productivity.

Xerox Business Services – the outsourcing division of Xerox – developed a service called ‘The office you want’ to help its customers establish and control the costs of document production in the office.

Amanda Hull, Xerox Business Services, Xerox Europe, said: “The objective is to develop a fact-based office document strategy, in partnership with the customer, that will help them move from an uncontrolled desktop environment to a fully managed service where costs are reduced and productivity improved.

“We have worked with some of our major customers across Europe to estimate potential savings and the figures are astounding. A leading supplier of computing systems saved £254,000 in print costs over twelve months by outsourcing their document services to XBS.”

In one leading northern European bank Xerox calculated a potential saving of almost £180 per employee, equating to a total hard cost saving of £16.2m in just twelve months.
“Document costs on average represent five per cent of revenue, but many CEOs and CFOs have no idea how much money can be saved by managing document output,” Hull added.
