New research set to improve construction processes

The DETR has awarded research funding to BSRIA under the Partners in Innovation programme, with the goal of improving the way the construction industry meets client needs. The focus will be on the entire process, from initial concept to final occupancy.

This programme is intended to provide clients with the information required to make informed choices, ultimately leading to work environments that enhance productivity and reduce overall costs. At the same time, it aims to provide building services and construction professionals with a better understanding of what clients want in buildings that must cope with ever-changing demands.

BSRIA will investigate, amongst other issues:

  • control systems for improving building design and reducing energy costs
  • opportunities for eliminating unnecessary maintenance activities
  • design options for maximising efficiency
  • feedback mechanisms.

BSRIA is also to collect key performance indicator information for assessing customer satisfaction with M&E companies and projects.
