Cable & Wireless deny outsourcing reports

Cable & Wireless has denied reports that it is exploring a Europe wide property outsourcing deal. Estates Gazette reported earlier this week that the telecoms company was in discussion with Trillium over a range of options, including the transfer of commercial property.

A spokesman for Cable & Wireless told i-FM categorically that, although the company was in discussion with a number of potential suppliers about a "straightforward FM contract," the transfer of property was not on the agenda.

Sources close to Cable & Wireless say it is highly unlikely that the company is considering a pan-European property outsourcing deal. For one thing the company does not own any property in continental Europe, it mostly leases offices and rents space for switches and servers in third party premises.

An initiative to outsource both property and facilities management in the UK to a consortium foundered two years ago. One observer said it would make very little sense to base an outsourcing deal anywhere other than the UK.
