ABB wins M&E contract on Merseyrail station

ABB Building Technologies’ Rail Services Business has won a contract for the mechanical and electrical refurbishment work on Hamilton Square (pictured), one of six stations on the Merseyrail Loop. The contract, worth almost £4.5m, was awarded by Laing Ltd on behalf of Railtrack as part of its Station Regeneration Programme in the North West.

This is the third Merseyrail refurbishment contract to be won by ABB Building Technologies, after similar work projects on Central and Moorfields stations, which are on schedule for completion on time.

Railtrack’s objective is to revitalise the station, renew existing systems whilst providing better facilities and an enhanced degree of passenger comfort with high intensity lighting. ABB will also be responsible for mechanical installations, minor building work and heating systems.

Hamilton Square stations serves around 150,000 passengers on a daily basis. The work is due for completion in the autumn. The station will remain in operation during the refurbishment project.
