  New workplace web site

The DTI has launched a new web site to promote management practices which, it is hoped, will improve workplace performance. The site www.greatplacetowork.gov.uk identifies three characteristics common to successful workplaces - they achieve results by sharing the goals of the business with their people; they involve everyone by sharing information and effort; they develop people by sharing learning with everyone.

Within each of these three zones are four sub-topics covering key tools and techniques such as: Managing Change, Customer Facing, Learning Strategies, Teamwork & Flexibility, Partnership, Employee Communication, Recruitment & Retention. Each sub-topic includes a link to case studies from organisations such as Amerada Hess, Zeneca, British Aerospace, Eurotunel Services, the MoD and Anglian Water.

The web site is a little heavy on motherhood and apple pie statements but is well organised and easy to navigate. Links to further sources of information are usefully categorised using the site's own structure.
