BIFM conference will focus on FM beyond the Millennium

A BIFM conference held 1-3 September at Warwick University is encouraging FM companies to look beyond the Y2K to increase the growth of the FM industry in the marketplace.

BIFM, the British Institute for Facilities Management has organised the 'FM - A workspace Odyssey' conference to highlight the opportunities available for the FM industry in the next century. Keynote speakers include Frances Cairncross, public policy editor of the Economist, Professor Ian Angell, Professor of Information Services - London School of Economics and David Clements, MD - WS Atkins Investments Ltd.

With the continuous growth of the FM industry and the added attractions of the growing role of FM in PFI deals, the conference will offer a view of how to make the most of FM.

Saul Shanagher, PR and marketing manager at BIFM commented the conference would question the part FM would play in the next 10 years: "Will companies still be in offices and where will FM head in Europe? We want to look at the changing patterns of work and new directions".

The three day conference includes:

Day 1. The BIFM Research Forum - an exploration of :

- Facilities Excellence
- Wellbeing in the Workplace
- New Directions in Strategic Asset Management

Day 2. Property

- looking at what the options and issues may be for the acquisition, management and disposal of workspace The European Dimension
- examining the issues related to the expansion of businesses across the European continent Health & Safety
- exploring the strategic and practical issues around the ever increasing locations that we work in, other than the office.

Day 3. PFI

- a perspective on the increasing role that FM is playing in the maturing PFI process.
