Mowlem preferred bidder for school PFIs

Mowlem has been selected as preferred bidder to design, build, operate and maintain schools in Leeds and Cornwall under the Private Finance Initiative.

A consortium lead by Mowlem and comprising Mowlem and Edison Capital Europe has been chosen to work with Leeds City Council on the £35m Leeds Seven Schools project which includes two high schools and five primary schools.

Mowlem’s Major and Special Projects division will undertake the design and construction, whilst Aqumen, its facilities management business, will provide maintenance and support services, for the 25-year life of the contract.

Cornwall County Council has appointed the NewSchools Cornwall consortium (Mowlem, WS Atkins Investments and Innisfree) as preferred bidder to provide serviced accommodation for 32 schools across the county. E Thomas Construction, part of the Mowlem group, will undertake £34m worth of initial capital works.
