WSP buys SA environmental business

WSP Group has acquired Walmsley Environmental Consultants of South Africa, to be merged with WSP’s existing South African Environmental business.

The new company, WSP Walmsley, will be a wholly owned subsidiary of WSP Environmental in the UK. With 20 staff based in Johannesburg, Durban and Windhoek in Namibia it will have an annual turnover of about £800,000.

Stuart McLachlan, WSP Environmental MD, said WSP Environmental was well placed to become a world leading environmental consultancy within the next five years: “We have strong support from WSP Group to build a global business on the strong foundation that we have developed in the UK and we wish to become the premier business within the environmental sector wherever we operate in the world.’’

Walmsley, is currently involved in the US$450m Scorpion Zinc Project in Namibia, the US $15m Murowa Diamond Project in Zimbabwe, and environmental assessments for several high voltage transmission lines throughout the South African Development Community region.
