STEPS contract starts

MacLellan has commenced the mobilisation of 1,500 staff as part of its contract with STEPS winner Mapeley (see News story) – an agreement which includes the transfer of ownership and management of some 700 Inland Revenue buildings into the private sector, including those of the Valuation Office Agency and Customs & Excise.

Integrated facilities management provider MacLellan is responsible for 300 facilities, serving 40,000 Customs & Excise and Inland Revenue staff. Together with Mapeley, the company will also provide services such as M&E, ground and garden maintenance, cleaning, security, catering and relocation.

John Ellis, managing director of MacLellan commented: “This is an extremely significant contract for us and fits with the strategic development of the company. It places us very firmly in the top group of facilities and integrated services providers in the UK and shows us to be demonstrably professional and flexible, and assures us of virtually nationwide coverage.”
