NewSchools wins £200m PFI

NewSchools, a consortium consisting of WS Atkins, Innisfree and Mowlem, has signed a £200m, 25 year PFI contract to upgrade 30 schools in Cornwall.

The project, NewSchools’ third education PFI, includes the reconfiguration, extension and refurbishment of four secondary schools and 23 primary schools as well as the provision of three new build primary schools.

WS Atkins will provide associated facilities management services, including building and grounds maintenance, cleaning, catering, security, waste management and utilities.

John Mowlem and Company’s South West regional operator, E Thomas Construction, will carry out the construction work and WS Atkins – under a subcontract with E Thomas – will provide design services.

David Clements, chairman of NewSchools, said: ”This project will help the students of Cornwall to fulfil their potential. We are delighted that we have achieved such a high level of Cornish involvement, securing jobs for local people.”
