Clear desk policy

A senior vice president at No 1 PC manufacturer Compaq told a New York conference earlier in the week that the desktop computer is as good as dead.

Mark Linesch argued that the PC is an evolving concept that will transcend the current big box. The way of the future is a true personal computer using wireless technology to link handheld devices and desktop components.

Linesch concede that Compaq, and everyone else in the business, faces a major challenge in re-defining themselves.
