Mick Dalton, Managing Director - Musanadah FM

Musanadah FM is a start-up company within the Alturki group, a diversified company in Saudi Arabia.

Mick commenced his career with the largest electricity company in the UK, Eastern Electricity, which became the second largest gas supplier and third largest generating company in the UK. At Eastern, Mick spent 19 years in various roles ranging from contracting, telecommunications, sales and marketing, HVAC design, building services and finally for the last seven years in facilities management. During his time in FM, Mick was responsible for successfully outsourcing many of the services and FM procurement.

In 1997, he joined Ernst & Young and was instrumental in change and the management of the outsourced service provision to meet the changing requirements of the firm. Mick’s role was focused on the strategic direction of FM in E&Y on a UK basis, though he was also involved in some global projects including e-procurement and travel.

He left E&Y in May 2002 as Director of FM and Travel for the whole of the UK and joined international law firm White & Case as Director of Operations with responsibility for FM, IT, travel, procurement and relocation. At White & Case, Mick was instrumental in managing change and developing the strategy for a new HQ building. He also re-tendered all service functions to ensure that best practice suppliers were in place to support the firm. The new W&C office was one of the first for a law firm to use RFID technology in smart cards for catering, vending, security and copying. The building also utilised IP telephony and wireless LAN technology.

Late in 2004, Mick joined GSH as Marketing Director. He left GSH in April 2006 to move back to a professional client-side role - joining Global Switch, a leading data centre provider, as Group Operations Director. In 2007 he joined the Emaar group, moving to Dubai to look after a fast growing portfolio of property. He assisted them to achieve ISO 14001, helped to set up operations in 15 countries and managed a spend of over AED 950m and 2bn of corporate office leasing.

He worked to set up the team for the Burj Tower and assisted on the Dubai Mall, education, health and hospitality sides of Emaar.

Mick moved back to the supplier side in January '09 to take up the position of General Manager of Marafeq FM, an Abu Dhabi-based FM company. In this position, he grew the business in all sectors.

Mick set up the FM in Middle East group and FM in KSA group on Linkedin, as well as being involved in setting up an FM networking group in Dubai. He sits on the steering committee of CIBSE in the UAE and has set up groups for all of the Middle East on Linkedin. Mick chairs or talks at most FM conferences in Asia and the Middle East and he is pioneering the first FM summit in Saudi Arabia.

Mick is a past Chairman of BIFM. In addition, he is a regular speaker in many aspects of FM, customer service, environmental and sustainability issues, as well as technology in FM. He is well known in FM globally and recognised as an authority in most Middle East countries. Mick is the IFMA foundation Middle East Liaison and actively promotes the foundation in the region.

A WORD OF ADVICE:

The customer, and only the customer, defines the quality of service and will be the judge of how good an FM team is performing. A delighted customer is one whose expectations and perceptions are exceeded! Communication in FM is the key to customer service. 

A LITTLE KNOWN FACT:

Mick is passionate about cars and motor racing and has a dream to one day own and drive an Audi R8.
