I have spent my career at the intersection of Government and Business, and have had a foot in both camps at various times.
I started in the Civil Service, working on environmental policy before transferring to Brussels to work for the European Commission. Here I cover policy issues as wide ranging as the relationships between the Commission and lobby groups, international steel trade and the economic relationship with the United States.
Leaving Government, I spent 5 years working for manufacturing industry, for both Corus Group and the British Oxygen Company. Working for heavily regulated sectors sharpened my insight into the effect of legislation on a business’s operations.
In 2002 I decided that I wanted to continue to represent businesses more broadly and I moved into trade association management. I started with the Federation of Master Builders, where I was Director of External Affairs. I have been Chief Executive of the CSSA since May 2006.
Keep calm and carry on.
