i-FM e-business Award 2005 Winners & Finalists

It is gratifying that once again the diversity of uses and applications of technology put forward by entrants was very wide, with the submissions of a very high calibre indeed.

Across this area of FM generally, there appears to be a new trend developing. Many of the applications we considered were designed to be added on to or integrated into existing software packages. This is a real step forward for users – and investors. Previously if a system didn’t fulfil exact requirements, one had little choice but to either have the supplier bespoke the software at considerable expense or purchase a separate tool for the job.

For the 2005 Award, the judges shortlisted four candidates, each very different in terms of the size of their organisations, the scales of the technology deployed and the benefits, both tangible and intangible, brought to the organisations using the systems. The final decision was especially difficult.

Winner - Condeco

Condeco, from RNM Systems, is the best-in-class room booking system. Developed with the requirement of FM in mind, it is scaleable – suitable for use on one site or globally across many sites – and it's multilingual.

The system can be used on a managed or a self-serve basis, with management reporting feeding through accounting lines, so cost can be effectively cross-charged.

Finalist - NJW with AstraZeneca

NJW worked with AstraZeneca to develop an FM dashboard enabling an existing CAFM system to be used to greatest effect. This innovation has transformed the users' information systems and reporting lines, crossing over to other areas of the business including finance, HR and IT, and integrating with them to reduce duplication and create both efficiencies and cost savings.

Finalist - ISG Opus

ISG Opus represents the convergence of construction and FM. This new tool was developed to support a managed process for the creation of operations and maintenance manuals – a critical feature in handover to the FM team, once the construction of a building is complete and it is ready to be occupied.

Finalist - Salvador

Salvador is an innovative and well thought through COSHH management software system to ensure health and safety compliance. Developed by Incuna in conjunction with United Utilities, this provides an easy-to-use and very functional system that can be readily integrated with other systems.
